How do Packers and Movers Work?
Moving day is quickly
approaching and since you made the wise decision to leave the work to a
professional moving company, you are almost looking forward to it. Having tried
the “DIY” moving experience in the past, you know all too well how stressful it
can be. This time it will be different since other people will be doing all of
the work for you.
Having professional packers and movers will definitely
make your move more enjoyable. The individuals employed by a moving company
like Sharma Packers and Movers have the experience, expertise and resources
necessary to get the job done to your total satisfaction.
Packing Up
As the homeowner it is always preferable for you to be
present while the packers and movers are in your home. While they do not
require that you supervise their work, they may occasionally have questions or
you may want to provide some specific instructions. There will also be some
paperwork to be reviewed and signed.
If you have not used a professional moving company in the
past, you may not be totally familiar with the process. Depending on the
quantity of goods to be packed, the moving company will assign the appropriate
number of packers to the job. Generally, a team of two or three professional
packers can pack up most homes in a single day. As a rule, the packing is done
on the day prior to the actual moving out day. If it is an extremely large job,
then multiple days may be required or a pre-pack of non-essential items can be
done a week or more in advance of the moving day.
At The Home
When the packing crew arrives at your home, the lead
supervisor will introduce you to the other team members. It is a good idea for
you to tour each room of your home with this individual while the crew is
unloading packing supplies from their van, as this will give you the
opportunity to point out any items of special value or ones that you are
particularly concerned about. The supervisor will explain how they will take
extra special care to protect them for the move.
Usually, professional packers work on a room by room
basis however if there are items in a specific room that you want combined with
items from another room, then tell the packers. You may be surprised at how
quickly professional packers can complete the job compared to how long it took
you to do the same job on a previous move.
You can go out to do some errands while the packers are
working however you should be there when they finish the job. The supervisor
will ask you to sign the packing report, detailing the number and type of
cartons completed. A copy of this paperwork will be given to you for your
record. Keep it with all of your moving documents.
On moving day, it is also important that you are present
rather than have a friend or your realtor be there to oversee the move. When
the van operator arrives, they will introduce themselves and their crew. Again,
you should do an initial walk through with van operator to point out any items
that should not be moved. You can also voice concern about special items or
anything you may be particularly concerned about.
The movers will begin by tagging and preparing an
inventory of everything that is being moved; this may be done on paper
inventory forms. You should know that movers also inspect furniture for
pre-existing damage and will make a note of this on the inventory form. If you
disagree with their assessment, you will be given an opportunity to make a note
on the inventory form.
Loading the Truck
Once the movers start removing furniture and cartons from
your home for loading on the truck, you can leave the house. You should check
in advance as to when they anticipate being finished so that you can return
before the truck leaves. Once everything is on the truck the van foreman or a
crew member will do a final walk through the house with you to make sure that
everything that was to go is on the truck and anything that was to be left is
still in place. Again, you will be asked to sign some documentation and will be
given a copy for your records.
